Her Majesty's Ship RAMSEY
(pennant number M110) is the tenth of the
Sandown Class of Single role Minehunters to enter service and the third
Royal Navy ship to bear the name.Constructed from a sophisticated modular process, Ramsey was built from glass-reinforced plastic by Vosper Thorneycroft (UK) Ltd at their Southampton yard and commissioned in June 2001. Currently under the command of Lt Cdr Alex Bush RN, Ramsey has a complement of 34 officers and crew. Her home port was Portsmouth until early 2006 when she transferred to Faslane in Scotland. In mid-May 2011 HMS Ramsey departed HM Naval Base Clyde heading for active service in the Gulf. Although her crews will rotate every six months or so, the ship itself will not be back in the UK for four years. HMS Ramsey's captain, Lt Cdr Bush said "We are about to embark on a great adventure which will be a fantastic experience for the crew. In a ship as small as Ramsey we all have to work together to get the job done properly - but what a job that is - clearing the seaways for other ships to follow. And you must remember that 95 percent of Britain's trade is still done by sea." We wish Lt Cdr Bush and the ship's company every success in their deployment.
